History of Black Forest

Up until the turn of the twentieth century, the nearly 120 square miles of land now known as Black Forest was originally comprised of a larger 1000 square mile parcel called the Pineries, stretching as far west as Divide, Colorado. Early settlers of Black Forest utilized the vast timber resources for railroad ties, further advancing the construction of the major railroad systems during the latter part of the 1800’s. The majority of the residential development and comprehensive planning of recent times took place during the 1970’s and 1980’s, beginning with the Black Forest Preservation Plan of 1974.

Black Forest is located approximately 20 minutes north of downtown Colorado Springs and just 7 miles east of Interstate 25 at Interquest Parkway. Residents can enjoy the best of both worlds, living in a peaceful and remote location along with taking advantage of quick access to the nearby amenities of the city. The major boundaries are Highway 83 to the west, County Line Road to the north, Eastonville Road to the east and a combination of Shoup Road, Old Ranch Road, Woodmen Road and Stapleton Road to the south. Apart from being just a short distance to Colorado Springs and Monument, Black forest also provides incredible opportunities within itself for getting out and enjoying every aspect of the great outdoors.

Black Forest Real Estate

Black Forest homes for sale come in a wide variety of architectural styles, including ranch plans, 2-story, multi-level, timber-frame and even log-cabin designs. Many of these homes are over 4000 square feet in size and have been nicely updated to include some of the following features:

  • Gourmet kitchens
  • Formal dining rooms
  • Hardwood flooring
  • Finished basements
  • Wood burning or gas log fireplaces
  • Covered patios and decks
  • Spectacular views of Pikes Peak and the mountain range

The majority of the home sites in Black Forest are at least 2.5 acres, providing the perfect opportunity for additional improvements such as:

A workshop or shed
Many individuals enjoy having a workshop or storage shed to secure their valuable tools or machinery, which allows them to free up room in the garage.

A separate dwelling
A guest house or mother-in-law suite is a perfect solution for visiting friends or family. Occasionally, you may also discover a separate dwelling designated as a formal man cave or game room.

Outbuildings
It has been a growing trend lately to raise livestock such as goats and chickens! A separate outbuilding can provide the opportunity to host a variety of animals or even get your green thumb on with a year round garden.

Black Forest Area Amenities

Residents of Black Forest enjoy many conveniences and local services including access to Black Forest Regional Park - a 385-acre park featuring tennis courts, picnic areas, hiking trails and playing fields. There are separate playground sets designed for younger and older children. The trail system is fantastic and there is also free parking.

Fox Run Park, located just west of Black Forest, offers miles of gentle hiking trails that take you through the pines where you can soak up the sunshine. The park also includes upgraded playgrounds with interactive play stations for the kids to enjoy. All ages can enjoy frisbee golf, soccer or baseball, but the key attraction within Fox Run is the beautiful lake and gazebo, where it’s not uncommon to see a wedding reception or outdoor event.

Centrally located in the heart of Black Forest near Shoup Road and Black Forest Road is Descar’s Roadside Bar & Grill, offering home cooked steaks, hearty meals and live music on some nights, giving you a chance to relax and connect with your neighbors or friends. Rockin' B Feed & Supply is located in the same area, providing the ideal place to purchase supplies for livestock, domesticated pets or even western apparel. Other local favorites include Firehouse BBQ, Mountain View Cafe and R and R Coffee Cafe.

Black Forest covers a lot of ground, from pines and meadows, to creeks and crags. Whether you’re looking for a Colorado country lifestyle or you’re simply hoping for a bit more privacy, the mountain-like feel and seclusion of Black Forest might be the ideal community for you and your family!
