History of Black Forest

Up until the turn of the twentieth century, the nearly 120 square miles of land now known as Black Forest was originally comprised of a larger 1000 square mile parcel called the Pineries, stretching as far west as Divide, Colorado. Early settlers of Black Forest utilized the vast timber resources for railroad ties, further advancing the construction of the major railroad systems during the latter part of the 1800’s. The majority of the residential development and comprehensive planning of recent times took place during the 1970’s and 1980’s, beginning with the Black Forest Preservation Plan of 1974.

Black Forest is located approximately 20 minutes north of downtown Colorado Springs and just 7 miles east of Interstate 25 at Interquest Parkway. Residents can enjoy the best of both worlds, living in a peaceful and remote location along with taking advantage of quick access to the nearby amenities of the city. The major boundaries are Highway 83 to the west, County Line Road to the north, Eastonville Road to the east and a combination of Shoup Road, Old Ranch Road, Woodmen Road and Stapleton Road to the south. Apart from being just a short distance to Colorado Springs and Monument, Black forest also provides incredible opportunities within itself for getting out and enjoying every aspect of the great outdoors.

All ages can enjoy frisbee golf, soccer or baseball, but the key attraction within Fox Run is the beautiful lake and gazebo, where it’s not uncommon to see a wedding reception or outdoor event.

Centrally located in the heart of Black Forest near Shoup Road and Black Forest Road is Descar’s Roadside Bar & Grill, offering home cooked steaks, hearty meals and live music on some nights, giving you a chance to relax and connect with your neighbors or friends. Rockin' B Feed & Supply is located in the same area, providing the ideal place to purchase supplies for livestock, domesticated pets or even western apparel. Other local favorites include Firehouse BBQ, Mountain View Cafe and R and R Coffee Cafe.

Students attending schools in Black Forest Colorado are primarily served by Academy School District 20 and Lewis-Palmer School District 38. Falcon School District 49 and Peyton School District 23 serve the outermost eastern and north-eastern borders of Black Forest.
